- Bald Range wildfire near Summerland grows past 17,800 hectares. The fire is now mapped at more than 17,800 hectares and is one of more than 100 active wildfires in B.C., with Minister of Forests Ravi Parmar reporting 904 wildfires this season burning about 390,000 hectares as of Tuesday morning; officials warned of high lightning-start potential in the Okanagan and central Interior.
- 100 Mexican firefighters arriving to fight the Summerland blaze. BC Wildfire Service spokeswoman Hugh Murdoch said 100 Mexican firefighters would arrive to help battle the 156-square-kilometre fire that has forced 20,000 people to evacuate and caused at least one death; RCMP have opened a criminal investigation into the fire's origin near Meadow Valley.
- Faulder family loses both homes as Summerland wildfire razes neighbourhood. Shawna and Lucas Wagner said their newly purchased home and Lucas’ childhood house were destroyed within hours in Faulder; the family is staying with relatives after the loss and Lucas’ father Joe, a contractor, said he intends to help rebuild in the wake of the destruction.
- Home, animal sanctuary and music venue destroyed in Faulder; animals survived. Owner Craig Milton said his farm, sanctuary and planned concert venue were lost in the Summerland fire, but he confirmed rescued goats, sheep, ducks and chickens survived because paddocks were green; a scheduled concert for about 100 guests was cancelled when the fire overtook the area.

- Province spent $101,000 in July to house one tenant at former Granville SRO. Global News reported the B.C. government — which owns the Luugat on Granville Street — spent $101,000 to house Ryan Donnelly in July while the building remains open with no shutdown timeline; Housing Minister Christine Boyle did not grant an interview and the ministry confirmed Donnelly still occupies the suite.
- Documents show transfer of ~300,000 acres of Crown land to Vancouver Island First Nations. New documents list about 30 Crown parcels, including Hatley Castle, Royal Roads University lands and waterfront in Victoria, proposed for transfer to five Vancouver Island First Nations as treaty talks conclude, prompting statements from Conservative leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay and legal commentary about the decision.
- Kids Help Phone reports 183% more overnight texts; crisis texts every 90 seconds. The service said text requests from 8 p.m.–8 a.m. ET are 183% higher than daytime requests, with a 24% year-over-year overnight increase in the first half of 2026 and CEO Rebecca Shields reporting Kids Help Phone receives a crisis text roughly every 90 seconds.

- Man pleads guilty to setting Vancouver officer on fire last year. Jordan Mutual, 41, entered a guilty plea to one count of assault with a weapon of a peace officer for the April 10, 2025 incident on East Hastings where a foot-patrol officer’s uniform was set alight by a flammable substance; the second charge was not pleaded to and Mutual was arrested after being treated for burns.
- Body of missing 13-year-old recovered from Cultus Lake; investigation to coroner. Chilliwack RCMP said the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team found the 13-year-old’s body on Aug. 10 just before 2 p.m.; the case has been turned over to the BC Coroner Service and police noted the youth was reportedly floating on a paddleboard without a life jacket on Aug. 8.
