🚑 Breaking & Incidents

1. One dead after canoe capsized on Stewart Lake. Ontario Provincial Police in Bracebridge say the canoe overturned about 40 feet from shore shortly after 8 p.m. on Saturday; a passing boater rescued one person and searchers found the body of a 31-year-old Mississauga resident on Sunday, and the Office of the Chief Coroner has been notified. ↗

2. Motorcyclist, 52, killed in head-on collision in Muskoka Lakes. Ontario Provincial Police responded to Muskoka Road 169 near East Black Lake Road shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Saturday; paramedics pronounced a 52-year-old from Lake of Bays dead at scene and the passenger-vehicle driver has been charged with dangerous operation causing death and faces a bail hearing in Bracebridge. ↗

🚨 Crime & Public Safety

1. Two 18-year-olds charged with 37 offences, including first-degree murder, over Salsa on St. Clair shooting. Toronto police say the July 11 shooting at the Salsa on St. Clair festival left two dead and five injured among about 13,000 attendees; investigators reviewed hundreds of hours of video and the arrests were announced Friday as the investigation continues. ↗

2. Three people face 42 charges after a Mercedes was involved in a Toronto–Mississauga police incident that left one man dead. Toronto police allege a suspect vehicle struck a plainclothes officer and officers in five unmarked vehicles converged; a 19-year-old driver was shot and died at the scene and three passengers — aged 23, 19 and 17 — now face weapons and related charges. ↗

3. RCMP seize more than $4.5 million in cocaine in southern Ontario operation; three charged. Investigators executed a July 8 search warrant at a Toronto condominium and additional warrants in Hamilton, seizing about $165,000 in cash and jewelry and charging two Hamilton men (39 and 38) and a 41-year-old Brantford man with possession for the purpose of trafficking. ↗

4. Ride operator charged after alleged sexual assault of a girl at Vaughan amusement park. York Regional Police allege the incident occurred during safety checks in late May; a 19-year-old Brampton man faces charges of sexual assault and sexual interference, and investigators say they believe there may be other victims. ↗

5. Nearly $800,000 in stolen trucks and computer equipment recovered in Brampton investigation. Peel Regional Police located four stolen commercial vehicles and trailers at Heart Lake Road and Countryside Drive on July 22 and found two shipments of computer equipment valued at more than $680,000 plus trailers worth about $105,000; no suspects have been identified. ↗

6. Dump truck driver charged with impaired operation after reports of swerving in Wellington County. Ontario Provincial Police say a fully loaded gravel dump truck crossed the centre line near Queen Street in Puslinch Township at about 1:15 p.m.; a 27-year-old Brampton man was charged with operation while impaired (80 mg or more), received a 90-day licence suspension and the truck was impounded for seven days. ↗

7. SIU invokes mandate after person fatally shot during Brockville search warrant. Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit says officers discharged a firearm during an 8 p.m. Thursday warrant executed with OPP and East Region Tactics and Rescue Unit assistance; one person was taken to hospital and later pronounced dead and the SIU investigation is ongoing. ↗

1. Brockville Aquatarium welcomes three otter pups, bringing total to eight. Curator Liz Harder says Mayble gave birth and the five-month-old pups remain reliant on their mother for up to a year while drawing increased visitor interest at the Aquatarium. ↗

2. Stuffed Peppers with Eggplant recipe: a dinner-for-four guide from Susan Hay and Massimo Capra. The recipe lists four medium peppers, two cups of eggplant, one pint cherry tomatoes, 4 oz parmigiano reggiano and step-by-step roasting and stuffing instructions, with baking at 450°F for about 10 minutes and final assembly using stale bread and basil. ↗

3. Conservative MP Larry Brock to resign Sept. 18 and return to Brantford Crown attorney’s office. Brock, MP for Brantford–Brant South–Six Nations first elected in 2021, announced the planned Sept. 18 resignation via social media and said he will leave Parliament to resume work as a prosecutor in southwestern Ontario. ↗

1. Two EF0 tornadoes confirmed in southwestern Ontario near Lindsay and Woodstock. The Northern Tornadoes Project preliminarily rated both tornadoes EF0 (65–85 km/h winds) after Saturday storms brought damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall; minor damage reported and no survey teams were planned initially. ↗

2. Southwold declares state of emergency after ‘250-year’ rainfall event floods roads; repairs to take up to two weeks. The township south of London reported multiple road closures including Burwell Road and Mill Road, started emergency remediation and scheduled repair crews for 6 a.m. Saturday, with full restorations expected to take up to two weeks and curbside collection details to be released Monday. ↗

1. Brady Lidster’s 11-yard field goal with 11 seconds left gives Argonauts 33–30 win over Stampeders at BMO Field. Toronto improved to 4–4 as Chad Kelly drove the offence late despite four interceptions, and Benji Franklin intercepted Vernon Adams Jr.’s Hail Mary on Calgary’s final play. ↗

2. Nathan Rourke cleared to start for the B.C. Lions after missing three games with a shoulder injury.
