- Toronto begins recovery after a '100-year storm' that flooded streets and homes. City officials said the Don River burst its banks during Wednesday's storm and Mayor Olivia Chow reported roughly 90 per cent of homes had power restored by Thursday morning; the Don Valley Parkway had reopened and residents were asked to call 311 for storm-related help.
- Rogers Stadium suffers “significant” storm damage after Wednesday evening winds and heavy rain. Live Nation said the open-air Downsview Park venue showed partially collapsed grandstands and strewn blue bleachers after the storm that dumped more than 100 millimetres of rain in hard-hit neighbourhoods; no injuries were reported and the next scheduled show is AC/DC on Sept. 16.
- Leaside homeowner proposes after a massive maple branch struck his house during Wednesday's storm. Stephen Armstrong told Global News a boulevard maple limb ripped away, brushing windows and tearing eavestroughs as he proposed to his girlfriend of six years while neighbours alerted him about the tree.

- OPP search for two Ottawa men wanted on first-degree murder warrants tied to April homicide. Joseph Madore, 34, and Brayton Kennedy, 28, are sought in connection with a death after officers found a person with life-threatening injuries at Last Duel Park on April 12; police say Madore may be travelling in B.C. backcountry and Kennedy may be in New Brunswick.
- Inspector General finds Niagara officers failed to act on a 'silent' 911 call that preceded a death. The 28-page report into a 36-second Aug. 30, 2024 911 call by Ralph Buerger concluded Niagara Regional Police did not conduct a wellness check and cited poor oversight and accountability within the force.

- City expands school food program to every public school, adding 33,000 students. Mayor Olivia Chow announced a $32 million investment to feed 325,000 students citywide when school starts next week, increasing program funding by more than 80 per cent since her election.
- Doug Ford defends $25,000 Lake Ontario sign as $25 million in free advertising. The premier said the bilingual “Lake Ontario now and always” sign unveiled in Winona travelled in media coverage across the U.S. and Canada after a U.S. executive order prompted the response.
- GTA home sales fall 2.1% in August as average price dips below $1 million. The Toronto Regional Real Estate Board reported 5,057 homes sold in August and an average selling price of $993,410, down 2.7 per cent year-over-year.
