- An 18-year-old was struck and killed by a GO train near Monarch Park late Tuesday. Toronto police were called at about 10:20 p.m. to Monarch Park south of Coxwell Station after reports someone had been hit on the Lakeshore East GO line; investigators say the incident is believed accidental and Metrolinx offered condolences to family and staff while the investigation continues.

- Eight people — four adults and four teens — arrested in downtown stolen-vehicle and firearms probe. Toronto police say arrests followed a Sunday attempt to detain a wanted man and youth; officers seized a loaded AR-15-style rifle with 27 rounds, seven master keys and two car-programming devices, and have charged the four adults (ages 18–20) and four youths (ages 16–17) with firearms and theft-related offences.
- A U.S.-based Hindu priest faces a sexual-assault charge after an alleged Oshawa ceremony. Durham Regional Police arrested 50-year-old Rajendranauth Doodnauth Maraj of Richmond Hill, N.Y., and charged him with one count of sexual assault after an alleged ritual at Harmony Road North and Conlin Road East; investigators say they believe there may be additional victims and released his photo for tips to Det. Const. Cronin or Crime Stoppers.
- Man acquitted of second-degree murder in 2024 TTC bus cologne incident. In Toronto’s Superior Court, 24-year-old Tefai Opoku-Boadu was found not guilty after a seven-day judge-alone trial into the June 25, 2024 death of 39-year-old Matthew Rumble; Justice Jennifer K. Penman concluded the Crown didn’t disprove self-defence beyond a reasonable doubt.

- Doug Ford’s PCs see a polling bump after public clashes with U.S. President Trump. A Liaison Strategies poll taken Aug. 23–24 found 39% support for the Progressive Conservatives, 35% for the Liberals and 20% for the NDP, a six-point gain for the PCs that pollster David Valentin attributed to the timing of the recent U.S.-Canada trade dispute and Ford’s high-profile exchanges with Trump.
- Canada’s retaliatory tariffs could raise costs on Ontario Line trains built in Maryland. Infrastructure Ontario’s $9-billion 2022 contract with a consortium including Hitachi Rail covers driverless electric trains for the Ontario Line; because Hitachi’s rolling stock is manufactured in Maryland, those cars could face federal counter-tariffs if Ottawa’s retaliatory list — which includes electrically powered rail locomotives — remains in force.

- One of Marineland’s belugas died weeks after transfer to Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. Shedd Aquarium reported Peekachu, a 23-year-old female beluga blind in one eye, died suddenly Tuesday after showing inconsistent eating and dehydration signs; a necropsy is planned, and Peekachu had arrived in a group of eight belugas moved from Marineland amid the park’s animal relocations.
