💼 Économie et affaires

  1. Un fonds fédéral de 510 millions de dollars pour l’infrastructure du logement pourrait débloquer environ 428 millions de dollars en appui provincial pour des projets en Alberta. Ottawa s’est engagé à verser 510 millions de dollars par l’entremise du Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund le 29 juillet; la province affirme qu’environ 428 millions de dollars en financement d’appariement pourraient être débloqués et qu’Edmonton couvrirait près d’un tiers des coûts admissibles des projets, permettant des travaux d’eau et d’eaux usées que les municipalités peuvent lier à de nouvelles constructions résidentielles.
  2. La cour approuve un règlement de 4,5 millions de dollars contre WestJet dans un recours collectif pour harcèlement de personnel de cabine. Un juge de la Colombie-Britannique a homologué l’entente cette semaine; les plaignants indiquent que l’indemnité moyenne est inférieure à 500 $ par bénéficiaire et que le règlement oblige WestJet à mandater une évaluation indépendante du harcèlement.

  1. Elections Alberta affirme que Voterlink n’a pas supprimé d’inscriptions avant le référendum du 19 octobre. Le directeur général des élections, Gordon McClure, a indiqué aux Albertains que Voterlink ne peut pas effacer des inscriptions et que les personnes qui ont voté aux dernières élections provinciales et qui n’ont ni déménagé ni changé de nom sont probablement toujours inscrites.
  2. La province reporte à plus tard cette année l’entrée en vigueur des limites sur les drapeaux scolaires et l’obligation hebdomadaire de l’hymne. Des règles liées à un projet de loi du printemps — dont le pouvoir ministériel de nommer des écoles — devaient commencer le 1er septembre, mais le ministère de l’Éducation dit que les changements concernant le drapeau et l’hymne seront mis en œuvre plus tard afin de permettre des consultations; d’autres dispositions, comme un nouveau code de conduite pour les élèves, débuteront toutefois le mois prochain.
  3. Saisie de la GRC à Red Deer : plus d’un kilogramme de fentanyl présumé et 15 000 $. Un contrôle routier en juillet et une perquisition subséquente dans le quartier Lancaster ont permis aux policiers de saisir plus d’un kilogramme de fentanyl présumé, environ 334 g de cocaïne, 24 g de méthamphétamine et 15 000 $; un homme de 22 ans de Calgary fait face à des accusations et Ravinder Singh Gosal, 23 ans, ne s’est pas présenté au tribunal.
