Reclaiming the Body: She turned trauma into a healing dance practice | Creator Network
On the shores of the St. Lawrence River, a unique dance workshop is helping women reconnect with themselves. Called Reclaiming the Body, the workshop is led by Jade Maya, a Quebec dancer and facilitator whose practice draws on Brazilian dance traditions like samba and Middle Eastern dance styles like Raqs sharqi, often called belly dancing.
For Maya, the work is deeply personal. After experiencing sexual abuse, she turned to dance as a path back to safety within her own body. That journey became the foundation for what she now offers others. By the end of the workshop strangers feel like close friends and there is a renewed sense of connection to others and themselves.
