- Police issued a dangerous-person alert near Edworthy Park after reports of a shooting just after noon. Calgary Police told residents to remain indoors and avoid the area; the alert was cancelled about 50 minutes later while officers kept parts of Edworthy Park closed for investigation. Police said multiple locations around the park remained restricted as investigators continued scene work.
- A water main rupture and resulting sinkhole closed Bowness Road and cut service to about 20 businesses. The City says the 250 mm water distribution main ruptured around 10 a.m. Saturday between 62nd and 63rd Street N.W.; crews made a minor repair Sunday but found a second leak and are replacing a short section expected to be completed today with full service restoration expected by day’s end. Restaurant owner Paul Sipos estimated $9,000 in lost revenue and food waste.

- A Calgary police constable appeared as a defendant in a preliminary hearing after two counts of second-degree murder were laid. Const. Craig Stothard’s hearing opened Monday; charges stem from a May 2023 slow-speed pursuit and shooting that killed 39-year-old Levon Fox and 46-year-old Wesley Davidson, and followed a year-long ASIRT investigation that reviewed body-worn camera and helicopter footage.
- Rogers attributes a major Calgary internet, TV and home-phone outage to attempted copper theft just before 3 a.m. Monday. Calgary police were notified around 6:20 a.m. of cut wires in an alley in the 3300 block of Erlton St. SW; Rogers deployed six crews and more than 20 technicians to repair extensive damage affecting neighbourhoods including Elboya, Inglewood and Bonnybrook.
- A 41-year-old woman pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the Edmonton fentanyl overdose death of Joseph Mercier. Court heard Mercier, 60, was injected with about one gram of fentanyl and 1.5 grams of cocaine on Dec. 22, 2022, lost consciousness and died; an undercover “Mr. Big” operation in early 2025 led to the accused’s arrest in March 2025.
- Alberta will review Amber Alert criteria and a Calgary day-home’s policies after the death of 11-year-old Parker Wells. The province said the review will include police and disability advocates after Parker’s two-week search ended when his body was found July 29 in an underground pipe system below Deerfoot Trail; Public Safety Minister Mike Ellis announced the review on Monday.
