Calgary Fire Department’s aquatic rescue team found the man face-down attached to a leash about 1:10 p.m. Thursday near the 85 Street bridge upstream from Bowness Park; crews began CPR on scene before AHS paramedics transported him to Foothills Medical Centre, and CFD warned against ankle leashes on moving water.

B.C. wildfire evacuations and vows to defend homes as smoke and risk spread. The Fiftynine Creek wildfire has prompted evacuation orders for about 193 properties and alerts for 104 properties in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, and residents in Clinton and nearby communities have reported choosing to stay and defend properties while the village issued a full evacuation order for properties inside its boundaries.
