  1. Alerte Amber diffusée deux jours après la disparition d’un garçon non‑verbal de 11 ans à Calgary; 300 policiers mobilisés pour la recherche. Le garçon, rendu public seulement sous le prénom « Parker », a disparu le 16 juillet et la police a mobilisé plus de 120 membres de recherche et sauvetage formés ainsi que des dizaines de bénévoles. L’Alberta a accordé une dérogation permettant de diffuser une Alerte Amber malgré le fait que l’affaire ne remplissait pas les critères juridiques habituels.

  2. Les pompiers de Calgary indiquent que les interventions en sauvetage aquatique en 2026 dépassent celles de 2025 et pourraient battre des records. Le chef adjoint James Docherty a déclaré aux journalistes que les équipes sont en voie de surpasser les sommets précédents alors que de plus en plus de personnes fréquentent les rivières Bow et Elbow; la saison des avis de prudence est commencée et les autorités ont rappelé les consignes de sécurité à l’occasion de la Semaine nationale de prévention des noyades.

  3. Une enquête entend que le risque d’avalanche était jugé « modéré » le jour où Spencer Postman est mort au mont Haddo. Brian Webster, gestionnaire de la sécurité des visiteurs pour Parcs Canada, a témoigné que la prévision du 5 avril 2021 pour Banff n’avait pas été mise à jour et que Postman, 26 ans, de Canmore, avait accès aux renseignements affichés; le juge Karl Wilberg dirige l’enquête pour recommander des améliorations en matière de sécurité.

  1. L’administration municipale demande à Calgary de doubler son engagement envers le Werklund Centre, passant de 63 M$ à 125 M$, dans un contexte d’un déficit de financement de 270,5 M$. Des documents soumis au comité consultatif des Arts Commons montrent que 74,5 M$ ont été engagés jusqu’à présent et le PDG Alex Sarian a dit que l’établissement, vieux de plus de 40 ans, nécessite des travaux de maintenance; le conseiller du quartier 6, John Pantazopoulos, a demandé au conseil d’approuver l’augmentation.

  2. La Cour fédérale ordonne à la prison d’Edmonton de prendre des mesures après vingt ans de plaintes pour chaleur extrême. La cour a enjoint au Service correctionnel du Canada d’enregistrer les températures et de demander l’autorisation d’installer la climatisation dans l’unité sécurisée de l’Edmonton Institution for Women après qu’un affidavit a signalé une cellule à plus de 40 °C.

  3. Les demandes de bulletin de vote par correspondance spécial sont désormais ouvertes pour le référendum de l’Alberta.
