Bruce Bowie dies at 72

• Edmonton radio legend Bruce Bowie has died at age 72. He enjoyed a 47-year career on the airwaves and was a well-known local personality.

Career beginnings: CHED, age 20 (1974)

• Bowie began at 630 CHED in 1974 at 20 years old, originally from Piapot, Saskatchewan. That start launched a long-standing connection with Edmonton radio.

Unique role at CHED: rock DJ to news host

• Bowie was the only person at 630 CHED (now 880 CHED) to serve as a DJ during the station’s rock-and-roll years and later host a news/talk show after the format change.

Moves and stations: Corus, Calgary, CISN

• He left CHED in 1985 for FM work with Corus in Edmonton (92.5 FM). Bowie later moved to Calgary, then returned to Edmonton to host the CISN Morning Show for many years.

Return to CHED and retirement (2010–2019)

• Bowie returned to host the CHED Morning Show in 2010 and retired from broadcasting in 2019, marking the end of active on-air work after nearly five decades.
