Toronto hit-and-run — Elderly pedestrian killed in midtown A 70-year-old woman died after being struck by two vehicles on Eglinton Ave E near Dunfield Ave just before 7:20 a.m. Police say she was hit by vehicles traveling in opposite directions; neither vehicle initially remained at the scene. Paramedics pronounced her dead despite life-saving efforts. Investigators had sought a light or white Hyundai SUV.

Greenbelt lawsuit — Developer seeks $300M from Ontario Minotar Holdings filed a fresh statement of claim against the Ontario government seeking $300 million, alleging breach of contract after the Ford government reversed plans to remove land from the Greenbelt. The land in Markham was bought in 2003, before the Greenbelt was created; the claim traces to laws introduced in 2023 after the reversal.

Brampton shooting — Three charged with 1st-degree murder Peel Regional Police charged Elijah Turney and Malik Young (both 20, Brampton) and Omar Ayah (25, Toronto) with first-degree murder in the Dec. 8 fatal shooting at Shoppers World Brampton. Officers responded to a 911 call at about 7:02 p.m.; the 25-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lottery — $80M Lotto Max winner sold in London, Ont. OLG confirmed an $80 million Lotto Max jackpot was won in London. In addition, 19 Maxmillions winners and one $1 million Encore winner were sold across Ontario. The jackpot winner(s) must claim the prize at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.
