🚨 Crime et sécurité publique

  1. Un Torontois risque cinq ans de prison après avoir roulé à 156 km/h dans une zone de 50 et causé la mort d’un homme de 59 ans. Les procureurs de la Couronne requièrent une peine de cinq ans pour Shabari Tull, 28 ans, reconnu coupable de conduite dangereuse causant la mort; la victime, Carlos Dinis, a été heurtée alors qu’il tournait sur Burnhamthorpe Road depuis Shaver Ave. dans un secteur résidentiel et était à quatre mois de la retraite.
  2. L’homme accusé d’un incendie près du domicile de la députée Salma Zahid à Toronto est aussi visé pour un autre feu à Ajax. La police indique que Roshvin Crofton, d’Ajax, a été arrêté et fait face à plusieurs accusations après un incendie le 24 août qui a détruit une maison vacante à Ajax et nui aux voisins, et après des véhicules incendiés devant la résidence de Zahid le 27 août; un deuxième suspect lié à l’affaire Zahid est toujours en fuite.
  3. Aubrey Lawrence, 69 ans, de Hamilton, arrêté pour une collision mortelle avec délit de fuite à Mississauga le 29 septembre. La police de Peel dit que la collision à l’intersection de Winston Churchill Blvd et Dundas St W a fait un homme dans la soixantaine; les enquêteurs ont identifié une camionnette Chevrolet Silverado modèle 1999–2005 et cherchent un témoin qui a interagi avec le conducteur après l’accident.
  4. Nakeem Jamar Johnson, 36 ans, arrêté à Cross Lake (Manitoba), recherché pour une tentative de meurtre à Brampton en 2022. La police de Peel indique que le mandat remonte au tir du 3 février 2022 près de Queen St E et Rutherford Rd à Brampton; des perquisitions antérieures en mai 2023 avaient saisi cinq armes à feu et environ 10 kilogrammes de méthamphétamine, de même que du fentanyl et de la cocaïne.
  5. Deux anciens employés d’Ajax FC accusés d’une fraude présumée de 650 000 $ contre le club. La police de Durham précise que des transferts auraient eu lieu du début 2023 à 2024; les accusés sont une femme de 50 ans (ancienne directrice générale) et un homme de 47 ans (ancien directeur général), et le club dit qu’ils ont tous deux quitté leur poste en 2024 et collaboreront avec la police.
