- Toronto man faces possible five-year sentence after driving 156 km/h in 50 zone, killing a 59-year-old. Crown prosecutors seek a five-year prison term for 28-year-old Shabari Tull after his conviction for dangerous driving causing death; victim Carlos Dinis was struck as he turned onto Burnhamthorpe Road from Shaver Ave. in a residential area and was four months from retirement.
- Man charged in alleged arson near MP Salma Zahid’s Toronto home also accused in separate Ajax fire. Police say Roshvin Crofton, of Ajax, was arrested and charged with multiple offences after an Aug. 24 fire destroyed a vacant Ajax house and damaged neighbours, and after vehicles were set alight outside Zahid’s home on Aug. 27; a second suspect in the Zahid incident remains at large.
- Hamilton resident Aubrey Lawrence, 69, arrested in fatal Mississauga hit-and-run on Sept. 29. Peel police say the collision at Winston Churchill Blvd and Dundas St W left a man in his 60s dead; investigators identified a 1999–2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup and are seeking a bystander who interacted with the driver after the crash.
- 36-year-old Nakeem Jamar Johnson arrested in Cross Lake, Man., wanted in 2022 Brampton attempted murder. Peel police say the warrant dates to a Feb. 3, 2022 shooting near Queen St E and Rutherford Rd in Brampton; previous searches in May 2023 seized five firearms and roughly 10 kilograms of methamphetamine, plus fentanyl and cocaine.
- Two former Ajax FC employees charged in alleged $650,000 fraud against the soccer club. Durham police say transfers took place from early 2023 to 2024; the accused are a 50-year-old woman (former executive director) and a 47-year-old man (former general manager), and the club says both left in 2024 and will co‑operate with police.

- Rogers completes $4.35-billion purchase of Kilmer’s remaining 25% MLSE stake, now owns 100%. Rogers says it will form a Rogers Sports unit combining MLSE assets with the Blue Jays, Sportsnet and other media properties and plans to sell minority stakes by mid‑2027 to pay down debt; Keith Pelley stays as MLSE president and CEO.
- Easton Cowan credited with a game-winning goal as Leafs beat Islanders, marking his NHL arrival. Cowan, 21, set up Toronto’s opening goal and scored the eventual winner in a 2-1 win after helping the AHL Toronto Marlies win the Calder Cup in June; teammates Morgan Rielly and Anthony Stolarz praised his poise and playoff experience.
- Raptors sign guard Jamal Shead to a three-year, US$24‑million extension through 2029–30. The extension, posted by Shead’s agent, keeps the guard in Toronto for three more seasons; Shead averaged 6.6 points and 5.4 assists across all 82 regular-season games in 2025–26.

- Toronto Region Board of Trade says Ontario will miss its 1.5‑million homes target without regulatory reform. The board warned the province could fall more than 550,000 homes short of required pace by 2029 and urged changes to zoning and building codes, saying municipal plan updates and infrastructure alignment would still take years even if reforms began immediately.

- Ontario minimum wage rises to $17.95 an hour as five provinces enact hikes. Provinces with increases include P.E.I. to $17.30, Nova Scotia to $17.00, Manitoba to $16.40 and Saskatchewan to $15.70; Alberta remains lowest at $15.00 and Nunavut leads at just over $20.00.
