The victim, who was helping his brother sell sneakers, was in a 2006 Toyota Highlander when two masked suspects pointed a gun and drove off after the Sept. 28 robbery on James Mowatt Trail; Edmonton police arrived within 20 minutes and the stolen SUV was later spotted near Cunningham Way.

Ottawa, Alberta to announce West Coast pipeline decision in Fort McMurray today. Prime Minister Mark Carney and Premier Danielle Smith will speak Oct. 1 in Fort McMurray about Ottawa’s deadline to designate a proposed Alberta–B.C. pipeline as a project of national interest; the project’s estimated cost range is $35.2 billion to $43.7 billion and Pembina holds a 10 per cent ownership stake.

Indigenous groups given two months for consultations on Pacific Link pipeline national-interest designation. The federal summary says consultations were extended from one month to two months after Indigenous leaders expressed concern; the government wants construction to begin in September 2027 and plans further consultations on environmental safeguards, financing and Indigenous partnerships over the coming year.

Canadian astronaut Joshua Kutryk arrives at International Space Station for six-month mission. Kutryk, 44, launched from Florida as mission specialist on NASA SpaceX Crew-13 with commander Jessica Watkins, pilot Luke Delaney and Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergey Teteryatnikov; NASA said the Crew-13 flight reached the station in just under eight hours and the crew will spend several months conducting experiments.
