Winnipeg police say three adults in their 80s were targeted Aug. 17–22 and a 29-year-old Edmonton man was arrested after officers found evidence linking him to multiple cash pickups; charges include fraud over $5,000 and sexual assault counts. Police recovered evidence from the suspect's vehicle at the time of arrest.
3. Accused in 2024 Edmonton Corn Maze killing pleads not criminally responsible, cites schizophrenia. Michael George Ferzli, 43, is on trial for second-degree murder in the Aug. 27, 2024 death of 53-year-old Joseph Farnsworth and has asked Justice Bob Aloneissi to find him NCR because of schizophrenia; court heard testimony that Ferzli believed Farnsworth espoused neo-Nazi views and had prior violent thoughts.
