- A 30-foot basking shark drew dozens to Bedford Basin this weekend. Video showed the estimated 30-foot shark swimming near the surface and weaving among boats at the northwestern end of Halifax harbour, with witnesses gathering at the Bedford Basin Yacht Club to watch the animal close to docks.
- Two drivers died in separate Montérégie road accidents. Provincial police reported two fatal collisions in the Montérégie region; both crashes resulted in driver deaths and are under investigation by provincial road-safety teams.
- An airport security agent at Trudeau was struck and hospitalised. Authorities confirmed a security agent at Montréal–Trudeau airport was hit by a vehicle and taken to hospital; the incident prompted an airport response and an investigation by local police.
🏛️ Government & Politics
- Montreal council will debate a draft bylaw to ban insults against municipal employees. The proposed bylaw would fine first offences $300–$1,000 and allow fines up to $2,000 for repeat offences, and includes provisions allowing employees to refuse service to people who misbehave; council has two meetings scheduled early this week.
- Quebec campaign enters its 26th day as leaders crisscross the province. The campaign reached day 26 with promises from CAQ, Liberals, PQ and Québec solidaire; leaders made visits including Christine Fréchette in Coaticook and Charles Milliard in Sainte-Thérèse as voters head to the polls on Oct. 5.
- A vigil in Longueuil will mark one year since Nooran Rezayi was shot and killed by police. The vigil starts at 6 p.m. outside a Longueuil police station and will continue to the intersection where 15-year-old Nooran Rezayi was killed; Rezayi’s family has filed a $2.2-million civil suit and the provincial watchdog’s report was submitted to prosecutors in March.
- PQ leads as election day approaches, but the race for second is tightening, a new poll finds. The poll shows the Parti Québécois in the lead with a narrowing contest for the runner-up spots as Quebec moves toward the Oct. 5 vote.
- Élections Québec opened its doors for a behind-the-scenes look at election administration. The agency hosted a public look at its operations and procedures ahead of the Oct. 5 provincial vote.

- A Belgian cyclist hit by a driver will miss the road world championships in Montreal. Organisers confirmed the rider was struck while training and is out of the road world championships scheduled for Montreal this year.
- Several NHL players changed teams in the off-season, including veterans moving addresses. Notable moves include Sergei Bobrovsky signing with Toronto and Brady Tkachuk joining the Florida Panthers; Chris Kreider signed a one-year deal with the Canadiens.
