- Boaters pull a 30-pound bear cub from Okanagan Lake. Christina Zamniuk and her family rescued the cub on Sept. 12 after it was seen struggling, then followed conservation officers' phone advice to release it near shore; wildlife experts told reporters the roughly 30-pound cub faces “very slim” odds to gain enough weight for winter, Northern Lights Wildlife Society's Angelika Langen said.
- A mother bear and cub wandered through a Pharmasave in Hope for about five minutes. Staff filmed the pair crossing from across the street and inspecting product aisles, employee Kim Glentworth said, and a TikTok of the encounter has reached about 111,000 views, Kara Kelso added.

- Kerry-Lynne Findlay resigned as BC Conservative leader after 113 days. Findlay stepped down Sunday and the party named MLA Lorne Doerkson interim leader hours later; the move followed caucus upheaval including the recent ejection of MLA John Rustad, the report notes.
- Interim leader Lorne Doerkson says the BC Conservatives have invited roughly six MLAs back. Doerkson told Global News he has had strong support and said five have accepted invitations so far, arguing the party is ready if Premier David Eby calls a snap election this week.
- Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim urged the province not to call an early election before Oct. 17 municipal voting. Sim spoke at his ABC Vancouver platform launch and cited the Union of B.C. Municipalities' motion asking the province to avoid overlapping campaigns; ABC announced commitments including banning open-air hard drug use and a zero-per-cent property tax increase in 2027.
- B.C. has filed a California lawsuit against OpenAI over the Tumbler Ridge school shooting. Attorney General Niki Sharma alleges OpenAI failed to notify law enforcement about threats before the Feb. 10 attack that killed eight people, and the province is seeking disclosure of the shooter’s interactions with ChatGPT and support for rebuilding efforts including a new Tumbler Ridge Secondary School.
