- Widespread 911 outages hit Ontario and other provinces this morning. Ontario Provincial Police reported multiple 911 outages and urged people to call OPP non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122; Toronto, York, Peel, Durham and Niagara services later reported restoration. Nova Scotia Emergency Management and police in Saint John and Kingston also reported outages, and the OPP said it is working with service providers to restore full service.

- Documents allege a Toronto constable sold home addresses and badges to criminals for $500 a search. Newly unsealed Project South ITO documents name 12 Division Const. Timothy Barnhardt, allege $500-per-search charges for confidential database lookups and claim he supplied an address linked to an alleged plot against a Toronto South Detention Centre guard. The ITO also alleges Barnhardt sold police badges and uniforms and may possess firearms, according to investigators.
- A 16-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder after a North York daylight shooting. Toronto police say the shooting near Jane St. and Finch Ave. W. on Monday at about 3:30 p.m. left the victim, identified as Cashie Auguste, dead and marked Toronto’s 24th homicide this year; the accused faces first-degree murder and probation-failure charges and had a bail hearing set for Thursday.
- OPP dismantle illegal online cannabis operation, seizing over $365,000 in product. Ontario Provincial Police’s cannabis enforcement team executed three warrants in Windsor on Sept. 2, seizing dried cannabis, concentrates, edibles, vape products, packaging equipment, contraband tobacco and $24,000; four men from Windsor and Sarnia face distribution and selling charges.

- Leafs’ No.1 pick Gavin McKenna skated with John Tavares and William Nylander at camp. The 18-year-old from Whitehorse set up a Tavares goal during Thursday’s practice and skated in the NHL group under coach Jim Hiller; McKenna was the top pick in June after Toronto finished last in the Atlantic Division in 2025-26.
- Raptors name Stephen Silas and Pat Delany among additions to coaching staff. Head coach Darko Rajakovic confirmed assistants Stephen Silas, Pat Delany and Jama Mahlalela on the bench, with Matt Vest promoted to assistant coach and Jeremy Castleberry returning to the staff ahead of the 2026-27 season.
- Barenaked Ladies performed ‘O Canada’ at the Buffalo Bills’ new $2.1-billion Highmark Stadium opener. The Toronto band sang the Canadian anthem before a packed house at the Bills’ first regular-season game in the new stadium, which features new grass resodded after the preseason and fireworks during opening ceremonies.

- Unifor warns strike possible if Stellantis pushes ahead with Brampton plant sale. Unifor represents more than 9,000 Stellantis workers in Canada and says talks broke down after Stellantis signed an MOU with Roshel for the idled Brampton assembly plant; Unifor president Lana Payne has asked Industry Minister Mélanie Joly to block the sale and Ottawa says it will apply "maximum pressure."
- Premier Doug Ford signals willingness to pursue involuntary addiction treatment despite capacity concerns. Mental health experts told Global News that Ontario would need major new resources and stand-alone treatment centres to implement forced treatment, and CAMH’s Dr. Leslie Buckley said the province must fund expanded capacity before pursuing involuntary programs.
