Maple Leafs winger Max Domi out indefinitely as training camp opens next week. GM John Chayka said the 31-year-old will be evaluated when the club reconvenes after off-season surgery complications; Domi is entering year three of a four-year, US$15-million contract. Chayka also said 36-year-old defenceman Chris Tanev “looks great” and is expected to be cleared after his medical.
Top prospect Gavin McKenna will not attend the NHL Prospect Challenge this weekend. The 18-year-old Whitehorse native, Toronto’s first-overall pick this summer, was removed from the Maple Leafs’ four-team roster for the Gatineau event. Marlies head coach Steve Sullivan — coaching the prospects team — confirmed McKenna won’t debut this weekend against Ottawa and Winnipeg.

Stellantis signs MOU with Roshel on potential sale of idled Brampton assembly plant. Stellantis Canada CEO Trevor Longley said Roshel could restore operations at the Brampton site, which has been idled since 2023, while Unifor paused contract talks citing an impasse over the plant’s future. The current collective agreement between Stellantis and Unifor expires Sept. 20 at 11:59 p.m.
Ontario Science Centre lays off entire science department; union says workforce falls from 166 to 136. OPSEU/SEFPO said live exhibit, education, marketing, IT and security staff were among those let go, and the cuts would remove over 540 years of combined service, the union added. The centre’s spokesperson said programming and new roles remain part of a restructuring after the facility closed two years ago.
Ontario courts affected by June 30 data breach on Thomson Reuters’ C–Track platform. Chief justices said the breach may have exposed court documents and that there is currently no evidence of identity theft or impact to systems processing court financial transactions. Thomson Reuters has added safeguards; the statement was attributed to Ontario’s three chief justices.

13-year-old charged after firearm seized during Ajax hotel investigation. Durham Regional Police say officers called to a hotel near Westney Road South and Bayly Street found a boy armed with a knife and later seized a firearm; the teen faces multiple weapons charges including unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm. Police say the youth was subject to multiple release orders and was held for a bail hearing.
Toronto police arrest another suspect in 2022 Scarborough murder; charged with first-degree murder. Police charged 30-year-old Christopher Atkins-Price in connection to the Nov. 12, 2022 shooting death of Ding Pang Wang near Midland and Passmore avenues; Atkins-Price is also charged with attempted murder in a March 10, 2023 shooting in the same plaza. Investigators said Justin Longshaw, 39, was earlier arrested and charged in the Nov. 2022 case.
