Zelenskyy à Calgary, déficit d’infrastructures de 50 milliards et Enbridge rachète l’activité pétrole de Tallgrass — Calgary mercredi

  1. Le maire Jeromy Farkas met en garde contre un déficit d’infrastructures de 50 milliards de dollars sur 10 ans. Farkas a déclaré au Rotary Club of Calgary Downtown mercredi que des décisions reportées ont produit un déficit de 50 milliards de dollars et a cité la rupture du collecteur Bearspaw le 30 déc. et le remplacement accéléré d’une conduite d’eau dans le nord-ouest, prévu d’ici la fin de l’année, comme preuves. Il a affirmé que le conseil utilisera une « discipline fiscale » dans le budget quadriennal attendu en novembre pour commencer à réduire l’écart.
  2. Le président ukrainien Volodymyr Zelenskyy est arrivé à Calgary mercredi soir pour une rencontre jeudi avec le premier ministre Mark Carney. La visite comprend une allocution de Zelenskyy lors d’une réunion du Conseil des ministres fédéral à Banff et des arrêts ultérieurs à Toronto et North Bay avant le départ vendredi; Ottawa a promis 6,5 milliards de dollars d’aide militaire à l’Ukraine jusqu’en 2029, indique le communiqué fédéral.
  3. Ottawa et l’Alberta se sont engagés à financer au moins 1 460 unités de logements abordables dans la province. Le gouvernement fédéral fournira jusqu’à 220 millions de dollars par l’entremise de Build Canada Homes (programme fédéral) et l’Alberta jusqu’à 165 millions de dollars pour 21 projets qui visent à inclure au moins 500 logements construits selon des méthodes modernes, indique le communiqué conjoint.

💼 Économie et affaires

  1. Enbridge, dont le siège est à Calgary, a conclu l’achat de l’activité pétrole de Tallgrass Energy pour 2,55 milliards de dollars. L’accord donne à Enbridge une participation de 75 % dans le pipeline Pony Express (460 000 barils par jour) et une participation de 51 % dans le système Powder River Gateway, ainsi qu’environ 8,4 millions de barils de stockage répartis sur neuf terminaux; l’acquisition devrait se clôturer plus tard en 2026, sous réserve des conditions antitrust américaines.
  2. Enhance Energy a inauguré le site Origins, un pôle de capture du carbone à Clive (Alb.), avec une capacité initiale de stockage de 1,5 million de tonnes de CO2 par an. Les opérations doivent commencer en janvier et Origins sera raccordé à l’Alberta Carbon Trunk Line pour desservir des émetteurs dont la raffinerie Northwest Redwater Sturgeon et l’usine d’engrais Redwater de Nutrien, a indiqué la société.
