- Mayor Jeromy Farkas warns of a $50-billion infrastructure deficit over 10 years. Farkas told the Rotary Club of Calgary Downtown on Wednesday that deferred decisions have produced a $50-billion shortfall and cited the Dec. 30 Bearspaw feeder-main rupture and a fast-tracked northwest water-line replacement due by year-end as evidence. He said council will use "fiscal discipline" in the four-year budget due in November to begin chipping away at the gap.
- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Calgary Wednesday night for a Thursday meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney. The visit includes Zelenskyy addressing a federal cabinet meeting in Banff and later stops in Toronto and North Bay before departing Friday; Canada has pledged $6.5 billion in military assistance for Ukraine through 2029, the federal statement noted.
- Ottawa and Alberta pledged funding for at least 1,460 affordable housing units in the province. The federal government will provide up to $220 million through Build Canada Homes and Alberta up to $165 million for 21 projects that aim to include at least 500 homes built with modern methods, the joint news release said.

- Calgary-based Enbridge agreed to buy Tallgrass Energy’s crude business for US$2.55 billion. The deal gives Enbridge a 75% stake in the Pony Express Pipeline (460,000 barrels per day) and a 51% interest in the Powder River Gateway system, plus about 8.4 million barrels of storage across nine terminals; the acquisition is expected to close later in 2026, subject to U.S. antitrust conditions.
- Enhance Energy broke ground on the Origins carbon-capture hub in Clive, Alta., with initial storage capacity of 1.5 million tonnes of CO2 per year. Operations are slated to begin in January and Origins will connect to the Alberta Carbon Trunk Line to serve emitters including the Northwest Redwater Sturgeon Refinery and Nutrien’s Redwater fertilizer facility, the company said.

- Calgary Stampeders fell 38-28 to the Edmonton Elks on Labour Day and face Edmonton again Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium.
